Welcome
to the web site of the Catholic Chaplaincy which serves both the University of Bradford and Bradford College!
Children Families & Schools Bill
This bill, recently passed by the House of Commons, encroaches on the rights of parents to educate their children in matters sexual and would inhibit the right of the Church to teach the truth as truth. Most importantly, it would also force Catholic schools to provide information as to how to access abortion and contraception. For a report and analysis of the effects of this bill go to http://spuc-director.blogspot.com/
A clear and unequivocal statement is needed from the Church hierarchy on this matter, to protect the faith of Catholics, to dispel all confusion, and that the State may realise that it has gone too far and has no right to legislate thus. An assurance should be sought that:
1. Catholic schools will be free to teach the truth as truth and not as one of a range of views,
2. That the rights of parents in this area will be upheld,
3. That Catholic schools will not provide information or access to abortion and contraception and, in matters relating to sexuality, will not teach anything other than what is proposed by the Magisterium of the Church.
If you wished to register your concern about this matter to the Bishop of Leeds, you will find contact information via the link to the diocesan web-site below. It's time to say firmly: NO!
The Chaplaincy, which is provided by the Catholic Diocese of Leeds in West Yorkshire, is here to provide for the spiritual needs of Catholic students on the campus. We also stand at the service of all members of the University and College who find a need for the pastoral support and faith formation that we offer here.

The resident chaplain is Father Stephen Brown
At the Chaplaincy, we are glad to affirm joyfully our faith in Jesus Christ, True God and True Man whose coming among us was the centre-point and fulfilment of all human history. We believe that Christ provides the answers to the longings of the human heart for love, and the searchings of the human mind for truth. We also acknowledge that the fullness of the Faith revealed by Christ subsists in the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church which He founded to continue His work through time, and which speaks with His own authority.
The Chaplaincy, which is under the patronage of the 16th century martyr St. Philip Howard, has its own chapel which is used for the daily celebration of Holy Mass in term time, and for quiet prayer and devotions before Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament.

We consider it very important that we provide a place where you can get to know people, make friends and socialise together; and where we can support each other in living out our faith in Jesus Christ. On the social side, we are fortunate to have our own bar at the Chaplaincy.
The Chaplaincy building is situated on the corner of Ashgrove and Great Horton Road, in the main campus area of the University.
On this web-site, you'll find useful links to other Catholic sites which can help in your Faith formation, and we also provide a selection of prayers and devotional material. If we can help you with anything, please get in touch.
The Mass times displayed on the left are the normal ones for term time, but are subject to occasional variation. Please click on 'Mass times & Services this week' for current listings.
